Walking Tours: Braga

The third largest city, often called the Rome of Portugal, Braga is known for its churches but there's much more to see here. Beautiful gardens and history abound, this city has a very different feel from coastal Porto and is absolutely worth the one hour drive to spend the day exploring.

Walking in Aveiro

The Venice of Portugal, Averio, just a 90 minute drive or train ride from Porto, will leave you completely charmed. With its canals lined with painted gondolas to its narrow cobblestone streets, there's plenty to learn and see here. Note: this tour can be coupled with a hike in the nearby São Jacinto National Park.

Walking Guimarães 

Guimarães, nestled among the hills of the Minho region is known as the Birthplace of Portugal and was the capital during the 12th century. It's known for its castle, palace museum and charming streets. You can also take the funicular up to Penha for stunning vistas and winding trails through the native oaks forests. Just an hour north of Porto by train, this is a must see.

Walking the Gerês National Park

Located along the Spanish boarder to the north about a two hours drive from Porto, Gerês is one of the purest and most beautiful natural protected areas in Portugal.The wildlife alone are worth the journey; Barrosã cattle and native horses that roam free as well as wolves and eagles. There are many options for trails as the park is large, so we can give several options when planning your hike. Longer hikes can include a picnic lunch or a meal in one of the small towns surrounding the park.

São Jacinto

This easy hike through the protected national park winds through the sandy forest along the coast eventually reaching the beach. Learn about the wildlife and often edible plants found in this unique ecosystem. Quiet and serene, this forest hike will leave you feeling rejuvenated. Note: A picnic lunch can be included on the 6 hour tour for an extra fee.
